Preparation and Training Officer
Caroline Borchardt is a civil servant working in the Defence Attaché and Loan Service Centre, part of the International Group.
As a key contact for all defence attachés and support staff during their training, Caroline supports all aspects of their preparation, from initial nomination to deployment.
“I am part of a team that trains, prepares, administers and deploys DAs, British Defence Staff, Support Staff and Senior Loan Service personnel, ensuring they make the most effective defence diplomacy contribution possible in the deployed network.”
Caroline is responsible for enrolling those nominated on all the necessary courses required for the post. From advanced driving, mandatory training and language, to working closely with the Defence Centre for Languages and Culture at Shrivenham, there is a broad spectrum to preparations. Her role is directly contributing to shaping the front line of the UK’s international defence diplomacy efforts.
“I create and manage bespoke personal training programmes for service personnel nominated to the Global Defence Network, i.e. those due to work in the defence sections of our embassies. I support them during their time in training to ensure they are fully prepared for their new role.”
Caroline routinely deals with a broad range of service personnel and their families creating bespoke training packages over varying timelines to enable them to arrive in the defence sections around the globe feeling prepared.
“I feel my role goes beyond the practical admin to ensure that everyone who comes through our training pipeline feels supported by defence as they prepare to depart to often quite isolated posts.”
