Members of Pakistan’s National Defence University (NDU) have concluded a week-long visit to the UK, at the Defence Academy.
The 22 delegates included directing staff and course members from the NDU’s National Strategy and War Course (NSWC). The aim of the visit was to highlight the UK’s approach to:
- professional military education
- military capability development and integration
- wargaming
The delegates received an overview of the Defence Academy’s delivery from the Deputy Commandant, Commodore Matt Solly, followed by briefings from the Developments Concepts and Doctrine Centre (DCDC) and the Defence College for Military Capability Integration (DCMCI).
Pakistan is a key nation in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond. The NDU is focused on military education and training for the Pakistani Armed Forces, with places also allocated to some civil servants and foreign participants.
The NDU consists of four main faculties/branches:
- Faculty of Security Studies
- Faculty of Contemporary Studies
- Institute for Strategic Studies Research and Analysis
- National War Gaming Centre
NSWC is divided into two terms. The National Strategy term majors on economic influence as Elements of National Power (EoNP), the National Security Plan, Geo-politics / Geo-economics, and the role of nuclear deterrence as part of National Security. The second term or ‘War Course’ concentrates on higher level operational employment of forces.
It is the most senior staff course that Pakistan Officers attend.
