Today, the position of Chief Executive and Commandant of the Defence Academy transferred from Major General Andrew Roe to Major General Peter Rowell.
An alumnus himself, General Rowell took command of his alma mater at midday, and will help the Academy to continue to adapt to meet new challenges and outmanoeuvre new threats.
Of his tenure at the Academy and the people he worked with, outgoing Commandant, General Roe said:
<em>"It has been an enormous honour and pleasure to be at the helm of the Defence Academy for the last five years. We make a huge educational difference, day-in day-out, to 41,000 students per annum. And I’m so proud of our hardworking and passionate workforce.</em>
<em>I want to thank you all for your kindness, commitment, and dedication to the enterprise. You do a </em>brilliant <em>job, often against the odds. I wish you </em>bonne chance <em>for the future and leave reassured that, in General Peter, the Defence Academy is in very safe and caring hands." </em>
On his appointment to the position of Commandant and Chief Executive, General Rowell said:
<em>" I would like to thank General Andrew Roe for his great Service to the Academy and to Defence – and wish him the very best in his future endeavours. He has guided the Defence Academy through significant challenges and change and leaves an impressive legacy.</em>
<em>For my part, I am richly blessed to join such a fantastic team with such an important role. I am very much looking forward to taking the helm and taking things forward."</em>
