Members of the Defence Academy’s Learning Capability and Development Group (LCaD) have recently returned from a NATO led e-Learning symposium, in Bergen, Norway.
Lieutenant Colonel Vicki Seth and Commander Nicky Cullen were joined by Chris Horan, Senior Lecturer at the Defence College of Technical Training (DCTT) in representing the UK at the 106th NATO Learning and Technology Interoperability Group.
During the week-long event, new standards were agreed for the sharing of e-Learning courses and modules, allowing for better interoperability between different Learning Management Systems (LMS).
The group also investigated rules for instructor development in both the digital and technological sphere and learning analytics. The UK representatives led on consolidating the Terms of Reference for the meeting and guardianship of the NATO STANAG (standardisation procedures) for interoperability standards.
Work will continue for LCaD over the next six months to explore how they co-ordinate a more efficient and effective interaction with NATO in training and education, within UKSTRATCOM and UK defence. LCaD will attend the Spring meeting in Halmstad, Sweden, where they hope to be able to offer a clear way of working between NATO member nations and UK defence using the Integrated Design Authority.
Recently established as a group, LCaD offers specialist learning and development support. The group provides analysis, design, delivery and assurance of training across the Defence Academy in accordance with the Defence System Approach to Training (DSAT).
