The second in a series of spotlights on the Defence Leadership and Business Group (DLaB) focuses on the Defence Leadership Centre (DLC).
DLC recently underwent an external validation of their flagship strategic leader series courses, including the Advanced Defence Strategic Leader Development Programme (ADSLP), Defence Strategic Leader Programme (DSLP), Senior Leaders’ Mental Fitness and Resilience (SLMFR) workshop and Leading Diverse and Inclusive Organisations (LDIO) workshop.
The MOD’s ‘Command & Staff’ Training Requirement Authority (TRA) conducted a comprehensive data capture, for ADSLP and DSLP, through extensive engagement with alumni delegates, and analysing and evaluating the extent to which both programmes had met the requirements of defence’s strategic leaders.
The ‘Health & Wellbeing’ TRA conducted a similar validation campaign on SLMFR, while the ‘Conduct, Equality and Justice’ (CEJ) Directorate contracted RAND Europe to design and deliver validation across all courses.
All courses received positive validation, underlining the impact and benefit at both the individual and organisational level, and demonstrated that DLC continues to deliver high quality strategic level education that is providing the ‘leadership edge’ for success on operations and in government.
DLC’s Strategic Leader Syllabus – providing the ‘Leadership Edge’ for success on operations and in government
Through the delivery of a diverse and comprehensive portfolio of residential, blended and online leadership interventions, DLC is accessible to military and civilian leaders across defence, our partners across government and our international allies.
The strategic leadership syllabus includes:
- ADSLP provides defence delegates and partners across government (PAG) with the opportunity to explore the personal and organisational challenges faced by leaders at the strategic level to maintain an intellectual edge
- DSLP by drawing together participants who operate in the strategic leadership space, DSLP provides them with a programme that focuses on developing their ability to lead at both the corporate and strategic levels across the MOD, and beyond, incorporating a deeper understanding of their leadership style
- LDIO educates strategic leaders on the benefits of a diverse and inclusive organisation, and the importance these elements play in shaping organisational culture. It helps strategic leaders identify proactive leadership strategies in implementing the armed forces and Civil Service diversity and inclusion policies, while supporting the MOD in becoming a more diverse and inclusive organisation for all
- SLMFR develops the awareness, skills and behaviours necessary to promote mental fitness and resilience and, through role modelling, enable strategic leaders to create the conditions that optimise individual, team and organisational wellbeing and performance
The strategic syllabus for DLC highlights their position as a leader in delivering Professional Defence and Security Education (PDSE), while spotlighting how DLC contributes to defence thinking on current and future leadership challenges.
DLC are part of the Defence Leadership and Business Group. Established in April 2022, DLaB is a unique and integrated defence asset focussed on human capability, which develops the ‘Leadership, Business and Spiritual Edge’ required to maintain the strategic and operational advantage.
