Congratulations to the Defence Academy’s latest Pre-Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) graduates.

41 officer cadets from 23 countries completed the thirteen-week course. The course is designed to prepare overseas students for officer training at RMAS, where a rich tradition of moulding international cadets into future world leaders dates back over 200 years.

In his closing address to students, Inspecting Officer, Captain Des Donworth RN commended the platoon on their hard work, reminding them that they should expect to be tested physically and mentally upon their arrival at RMAS, but that the friendships they had forged during their time at the Defence Academy would help them in the future.

Pre-RMAS is delivered by the Defence Centre for Languages and Culture and consists of two phases. Run over 13 weeks, Phase A develops English language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing for both military and general English.

In addition, drill, leadership skills, physical fitness, navigation training and decision-making exercises are undertaken, as well as development of a wider understanding of military and British cultures.

Officer cadets can alternatively enrol on Pre-RMAS Phase B, which provides additional opportunity to further develop military and language skills alongside the final three weeks of Phase A training.
