This October, the Building Integrity UK (BIUK) team delivered a combination of their first export courses BISL (Building Integrity Senior Leaders), BIPP (Building Integrity for Presenters), BISC (Building Integrity Staff Colleges) and VSL (Very Senior Leaders) in Lima, Peru.
Course attendees included 20 senior delegates across the defence and security and anti-corruption sectors, government officials, and over 100 members of the defence staff college. Course presenters were Lt Col Dai Davies (Defence Academy, International Group), Lt Col Ben Stokes (Defence Academy, BI team) and Julie Comer-Crook (Defence Academy, BI team/Director).
Delivered directly at home and abroad, BIUK’s portfolio of courses aims to reduce the risks of corruption globally by promoting and implementing the principles of integrity, transparency and accountability. The courses focus on reducing corruption in the “Five Areas of Risk”:
- political and security sector interface
- public financial management
- procurement and logistics
- human resource management
- complex security environments
Both the BIUK team and attendees found the course beneficial, establishing new and maintaining existing bilateral capacity-building relationships with key members of the anti-corruption stakeholder community. The team looks forward to building this community across South America and strengthening NATO building integrity relationships and initiatives.
This year alone the BIUK team has delivered courses in Bulgaria, Uruguay, Columbia, Peru and Uzbekistan with plans to visit Uganda, Iraq, Lebanon and Trinidad and Tobago later this year.
