This postgraduate course is delivered by Cranfield University on behalf of the Defence College for Military Capability Integration, Defence Academy.

Why this course?

This course is particularly suitable for those who will be involved with the specification, analysis, development, technical management or operation of military radar, electro-optics, communications, sonar or information systems, where the emphasis will be on an electronic warfare environment.

Successful completion of the MSc should provide you with a high level of understanding and detailed knowledge of military communications and sensor systems with particular regard to electronic warfare. In addition, the course should enable you to carry out an in-depth investigation into an area of electronic warfare to further enhance your analytical capability and prepare you for roles in defence intelligence, systems development and acquisition, involving the specification and analysis of such systems, working individually or as part of a team.

Course Delivery

The PgCert will comprise six core modules accumulating 60 credits; after successful completion the award of PgCert Military Electronic Systems Engineering: Foundations is available. The PgDip taught phase comprises 10 compulsory modules and a choice of either Information Networks and Advanced Radar, or Aeronautical Engineering Parts 1 and 2.

MSc students must complete a taught phase consisting of 12 modules, followed by an individual dissertation on a relevant topic.

Taking a standalone modules as a short course

You may also elect to undertake a number of standalone modules as opposed to an MSc, PgDip or PgCert, with or without the associated assessment, less for Electromagnetic Propagation and Devices which needs to taken with assessment, and the Dissertation Project. All applicants to courses that are wholly or partially delivered at Shrivenham must complete the BPSS (HMG Baseline Personnel Security Standard V4 April 2014) prior to registration on the course or must already hold a security clearance to this level or higher.

Before you attend

A first or second class honours degree or equivalent in science, engineering or mathematics. Alternatively, a lesser qualification together with appropriate work experience may be acceptable.
