Mentoring Fundamentals is an engaging online course designed to enhance your understanding of mentoring and its role within Defence. Hosted on the Defence Learning Environment (DLE), this course offers a rich mix of interactive content, including podcasts, videos, guides, and mentoring journals.
Through this course, you'll explore the essentials of mentoring, learning to distinguish it from coaching while gaining clarity on the roles and expectations of both mentors and mentees. You'll delve into the stages of the mentoring process and the critical skills needed for success, such as reflective practice, effective questioning, active listening, and goal setting. Additionally, the course highlights the challenges and benefits of mentoring, offering insights into embedding a mentoring culture and designing sustainable mentoring schemes.

N.B. The Mentoring Fundamentals course has been updated (January 2025) to offer a more interactive and engaging learning experience. This new version includes a fresh, intuitive layout that adapts to any device, making it easier to navigate and access content whenever and wherever you need it.
The course has also enriched the course with new insights and tools. You'll find in-depth explanations on reverse and mutual mentoring, along with expanded guidance on understanding when coaching and mentoring overlap. Additionally, both mentee and mentor journals are now available in an electronic format, allowing for easier reflection and tracking of your mentoring journey
