About this course
The Knowledge Information and Management (KIM) Pathway is a series of modules designed and created by Information Capability for personnel in Information professional roles.
Through (virtually) guided online learning and assessments, the KIM Pathway teaches the basic knowledge and skills required for Information professionals (OR2 to SO3 and CS equivalents) working at a practitioner level.
Module 1 follows completion of the pre-requisite self-enrolled DLE Module 0 and is the first instructor-led module in the KIM Pathway. It is roughly equivalent to the former ISA course.
NB: Applicants who have completed the ISA or ISO course at the Defence Academy in the last two years you may be exempt from having to complete KIM Pathway Modules 0, 1 or 2. If you feel this may apply to you then please contact the course administrator.
What you will learn
- an understanding of the foundation knowledge, skills and behaviours of an Information professional
- an awareness of how to produce an effective file plan for an organisation
- an understanding of how to maintain a modern SharePoint Online (SPOL) site, and the use of workflows and Infopath to improve Collaborative Working
- an understanding of how to produce a TeamSite on SPOL using lists, calendars, pictures, and MOD document libraries
- an understanding of MOD Record Management and QARS (Quest Active Role Server)

Information professionals typically work within the iHub and are responsible for information administration activities. They are, therefore, essential contributors to effective information management.
On Module 1 of the KIM Pathway you will learn significant transferable skills and knowledge such as:
- Maintenance of a modern Share Point Online (SPOL) site to effectively and efficiently manage a team's information online, including the use of Workflows and Infopath
- Use of QARS as a permissions tool on SPOL
- Building a TeamSite on SPOL
- The legislation and regulation frameworks governing Information and records in the MOD
- Effective Record Management in line with government policy

How you will be assessed
There are formative questions throughout the module to check understanding and an online assessment at the end of the module. You are required to pass the summative assessments to move onto further modules along the KIM Pathway.
