About this course
It is a brief, solution focused model of active listening which offers, in a very practical way, the broad knowledge and basic practise of listening skills.
You will be encouraged to engage with your personal experiences of loss and bereavement and as a result this course can be quite emotionally challenging.
What you will learn
- an understanding of listening in the wider context of communication skills
- an awareness of the barriers that inhibit effective interaction
- the art of active listening
- the art of asking questions
- how to end conversations appropriately
- the processes, emotions and tasks of mourning - differing forms of grief
- to better understand the issues in dealing with bereavement and loss within the Services

- Military
Military and designated MOD Civil Servants.
Qualifying criteria assessed by Chaplain Instructor (RAF)

- Face-to-face/Residential
How you will be assessed
The course is not assessed but day 4 will evidence the formative development of participants through role-play exercises using active listening skills in a range of scenarios.
