About this course

The aim of the Diversity and Inclusion Practitioner course is to prepare military and Civil Service personnel to perform duties as a DD&I (P) at unit, establishment and formation headquarters level.

What you will learn

  • articulate current diversity and inclusion strategy, policies, initiatives and benefits in order to promote a whole force inclusive working environment
  • understand the importance of a whole force inclusive working environment and how it relates to the overall workplace diversity and inclusion culture to assist the Diversity and Inclusion Adviser in improving the overall climate of the unit
  • provide appropriate support to all personnel on diversity and inclusion issues and to signpost as required for further support and help in relation to raising complaints relating to discrimination, bullying, harassment and/or abuse
  • identify when and how to take action against any unacceptable behaviour
  • support with the delivery of effective diversity and inclusion training

How this course will help your career

Taking relevant action against any inappropriate behaviour in support of creating a whole force inclusive working environment.

This course will enhance your understanding of issues surrounding equality, diversity and inclusion, developing skills such as active listening and recognising inappropriate behaviour.

Delegates attending this course are recognised as being the "change agents", supporting colleagues when they have been subject to inappropriate behaviour and proactively developing a whole force inclusive working environment.

Who can attend this course

  • MOD civil servants

Limited to MOD personnel only.

If you belong to the Navy Command TLB you must go through your D&I Rep to be allocated a place on this course.

For all other TLBs there is a requirement to self-enrol. Before enrolment you are required to obtain approval from your Line Management/Chain of Command and to engage with your D&I Lead. Once you have been allocated a place/completed the D&I Practitioner Course please inform your Line Manager/CoC or D&I representative to ensure your TLB updates their records.

The Defence Academy are the Training Provider only & will not prioritise any applications.

Application: The annual demand (SOTR) for this course is very high, and with finite resources in DLC, this means the supply of course places (SOTT) is limited. As such, DLC has decided to prioritise all applications using the table below to ensure the right people are attending the right course at the right time. On submitting your application, you will receive an emailed 'Course Allocation Form' (CAF) that asks for your responses against the prioritisation questions below. On return, the DLC Admin team will process your CAF and be in touch to confirm your place on a course.

Before applying for this course please ensure that you have:

  • completed Diversity and Inclusion Fundamentals on line course within the last 12 months, achieving a pass mark of at least 80%
  • completed relevant Single Service or MOD Civil Service diversity and inclusion mandatory training

There will be pre-course activity of between 4-6 hours.

How you will be assessed

  • Completion of Diversity and Inclusion Fundamentals Course with pass mark of at least 80%
  • Assessments will be conducted throughout the course.
  • You will be deemed competent or non-competent to carry out the role of a Diversity and Inclusion Practitioner

Following successful completion of all course pre-requisites and assessments you will be eligible to apply for the CMI Level 4 Award in Management and Leadership qualification, which is self-funded.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION for ALL delegates

All delegates who register with CMI to gain a Qualification should submit their completed assignments to CMI for external marking no later than 12 weeks before the end of the 12-month registration period. This will allow for the 6 weeks Service Level Agreement (SLA) CMI have in place for the return of delegates assignment results, and, in case of an assignment referral that means the delegates assignments need more work and will have to be re-submitted again for marking.
