Before you attend

The Diversity and Inclusion (Advisor) course is for those individuals intending to qualify (or requalify) as a unit diversity and inclusion advisor.

It has been redesigned to remove the mandatory requirement to complete the Diversity and Inclusion Practitioner course as a pre-requisite. Commencing from May 2021, it is delivered as a two-part intervention.

  • Diversity and Inclusion (Advisor) part 1: self-directed, online modules on the Defence Learning Environment (DLE) (approximately 5 hours duration), to be completed no later than 24 hours, prior to attending the Diversity and Inclusion (Advisor) part 2.
  • Diversity and Inclusion (Advisor) part 2: trainer-led, learning (3.5 days virtual delivery).

You should consider the following Routes to Learning (RtL) when assessing your eligibility to apply for, enrol on and attend this course:

  • RtL option 1 (legacy course completion):
    • you have successfully completed Diversity and Inclusion Practitioner course within the last 3 years
    • you have successfully completed the Diversity and Inclusion Fundamentals Online Course on the DLE (pass mark 80%) within the last 12 months
    • proceed straight to application for Diversity and Inclusion part 2 (see below for application/enrolment process)
  • RtL option 2 (legacy course qualification):
    • you have a previous qualification as an equality, diversity and inclusion advisor, but due to inactivity, your currency/competency has expired
    • you have successfully completed the Diversity and Inclusion Fundamentals Online Course on the DLE (pass mark 80%) within the last 12 months
    • proceed straight to application for Diversity and Inclusion (Advisor) part 2 (see below for application/enrolment process)
  • RtL option 3 (new to the role, or have been absent from a Diversity and Inclusion role for more than 3 years):
    • you will need to have successfully completed the Diversity and Inclusion Fundamentals online course on the DLE (pass mark 80%) within the last 12 months
    • you will need to successfully complete the Diversity and Inclusion (Advisor) part 1 (this needs to be completed no later than 24 hours prior to attending part 2)
    • you will need to successfully complete the Diversity and Inclusion (Advisor) part 2
  • RtL option 4 ( practicing Diversity and Inclusion Advisor seeking to extend their competency/qualification):
    • Top Level Budgets have been delegated the authority to extend your qualification/competency for a further 5 years, providing the following conditions are met:
      • evidence submitted of your Diversity and Inclusion Advisor practice (i.e. activity in the role, CPPD events etc)
      • successful completion of the Diversity and Inclusion Fundamentals Online Course on the DLE (pass mark 80%) within the previous 12 months (of seeking the extension)
    • pending the above, there is no requirement to re-attend either Diversity and Inclusion part 1 or part 2 of the new Diversity and Inclusion (Advisor) Course

In light of recent changes to the enrolment process and the high demand for this course competency, it has been decided to allow a further 5 year extension, if the TLB is content that an individual is able to demonstrate they are active and current in their D&I Adviser role. This change is in effect now (16 Jan 2025). Once in date for 15 years it will be necessary to refresh competency by enrolling to attend the D&I Adviser Course. This may, in the future, be tailored & the content reduced to account for the individual's existing experience in carrying out the role effectively for an extended period.
