About this course
The Defence Wargaming Foundation Course (DWFC) is designed to provide UK military, government, and civilian personnel with an introduction to wargaming and an ability to participate in wargaming exercises and scenarios in support of defence outputs.
DWFC will include lectures and wargaming practical sessions, in which you will be invited to partake in entry-level wargames in a variety of roles.
DWFC is the first in a series of defence wargaming courses, followed by a practitioner and designer course which you may subsequently attend to continue your professional development in the wargaming sector.
What you will learn
- familiarity with wargaming techniques and tools
- an awareness of historical and contemporary wargaming best practice examples
- a capability to participate and identify all aspects of a wargame (including analysis, interpret and debrief simple wargame results)
- an understanding of key factors that influence wargames such as bias, motivation and an ability to identity lessons learnt from the wargame
- experience in a range of wargame scenarios and situations

Wargaming is a key skill which will enable you to support an organisation’s need to enhance education, training, decision making and planning.
Completing DWFC will qualify you to attend the wargame practitioner course followed by the designer courses. Qualifications will enable you to deliver professional wargames across the defence space.
