The Capability and Acquisition Awareness course is delivered face-to-face by Cranfield University at the Defence Academy, Shrivenham.

This course is suitable if you are new to capability or are starting a capability management and/or acquisition post.

You will gain knowledge and understanding of CAPAC principles and processes and an understanding of the language and processes used in CAPAC management domains.

What you will learn

The CAPAC Awareness Course has been designed for personnel new to the field to develop the required knowledge and understanding in preparation for future attendance on the practitioner courses.

It satisfies the immediate needs of a multi-disciplinary audience at the "Awareness" level
who need to grasp the CAPAC terms, language and processes to settle in CAPAC roles
as quickly and efficiently as possible.

The course includes modules on:

  • Defence Operating Model
  • Strategic/defence force development
  • User and system requirements
  • Sustaining capability through life

The CAPAC Awareness Course builds on existing knowledge from the CAPAC Fundamentals Online Training. Successful completion of this course will enable students to have a streamlined learning of CAPAC principles and processes.

Upon completion of the course, you can further your knowledge by undertaking one of the three practitioner courses, each with a focus on aspects of CAPAC (planning, delivering and in-service management). This consolidated acquired knowledge will support you to set the foundation to become one of the next generation of leaders and managers that deliver military capabilities to the front line and support them through life.

Before you attend

You are required to complete the online Defence Learning Environment (DLE) training sessions prior to attending any practitioner course.
