About this course

This programme will:

  • present the business case for D&I in practise
  • demonstrate the importance of strategic leadership in shaping culture
  • consider the lived experience of feeling included / excluded
  • assess strategies for managing personal biases
  • provide case studies from a diverse range of organisations
  • assist you in identifying proactive personal and leadership strategies to play your part in the MOD’s becoming a more diverse and inclusive employer

The programme requires delegates to complete pre-course learning, a one-day classroom based workshop and post-course reflection. All are mandatory

Senior Leaders are also encouraged to book a place on the one day Senior Leaders Mental Fitness & Resilience (SLMFR) Workshop, which compliments the LDIO offering.

LDIO applicants are asked to note the following:

  • Access to the Defence Learning Environment (DLE) is essential.
  • Adobe Connect is the platform used for delivery and cannot be accessed via MODNet devices.
  • Pre-study on the DLE (approx. 2 hrs) should be undertaken before attending the workshop.
  • A post-workshop submission (approx. 2 hrs) is a mandatory requirement and is submitted via the DLE.

  • Capability –  Provide Senior Leaders with the knowledge and skills needed to help deliver the D&I Strategy;
  • Compliance – Ensure Senior Leaders are aware of Defence’s obligations and their role in ensuring departmental policies and procedures are complied with;
  • Commitment – Impress upon Senior Leaders the need to take personal responsibility for D&I; and
  • Delivery – Senior Leaders to identify the specific actions they can take.

How will this course help my career?

This programme is mandatory for all strategic leaders – they will be required to attend it every 3 years.

Before you attend

For public sector:
  • Equality and Diversity Essentials online training and Unconscious Bias online training
For all:
  • the Defence Secretary, Permanent Under Secretary and Chief of the Defence Staff have all made personal diversity and inclusion pledges which it would be an advantage to have read
  • A reading list will also be given on acceptance to the workshop.
  • Pre-study on the DLE (approx. 2hrs) should be undertaken before attending the workshop
  • All applicants are to have read 2020225DIN07x-DLC_Specialist_Courses.
